Now, if a health worker is beaten and a health institution is set on fire, the person involved in such incidents can be fined Rs 500,000 and imprisoned for five years. The provision is mentioned in the ordinance on security of health workers and health institutions issued by President Vidyadevi Bhandari today.
On the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, President Bhandari has issued the Ordinance 2078 on the Security of Health Workers and Health Institutions (First Amendment). It has been found that some amendments have been made in the draft ordinance sent by the Ministry of Health before it was passed in the Council of Ministers. Dr. Krishna Adhikari said that the suggestions given by the CPN-UML Health Department were also included.
